Evolution Korea In the past the Korean scientific community avoided engaging with the creationists out of fear of giving the movement more credence But silence is no any longer an option The STR has been campaigning to get rid of textbooks that describe evolution including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestor of birds This is just one aspect of how the concept of development has evolved What is Evolution Evolution is a theory of science that explains the evolution of genetic characteristics of living organisms over time The theory is based on fact that living things adapt to their environment which can result in changes in genes or even whole genomes These changes could over generations lead to the creation of new species Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution It explains how individuals with traits that are advantageous survive and reproduce more than those with less advantageous traits This variation in reproduction could be a catalyst to the creation and evolution of new species The term evolution comes from the Latin wordevolution which means unrolling or revealing but the concept has had a variety of meanings since it took form in the sciences and other fields Some early evolutionists including Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin Charless grandfather believed that existing species evolved into new species in a certain way The term transmutation was coined by Lamarcks student embryologist Etienne Geoffroy SaintHilaire to describe this notion Charles Lyell in his Principles of Geology published in 1833 criticized the idea of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroys student Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process through which living organisms develop traits to increase their chances of living or conceiving offspring In time this genetic variation can result in the development of completely new physical or biological functions in the same population Natural selection is the mechanism that triggers the most evolutionary changes However nongenetic changes such as the growth in muscle mass from exercise or diet cannot be considered examples of evolution because they are not inherited by the next generation Creationists make the argument that evolution is controversial even though it has been proven true by thousands of scientific tests and that it has stood the test of time They claim that the theory shouldnt be taught at school In South Korea creationists have gained a few victories in their fight to remove evolution from high school textbooks and have also gotten rid of any mention of the evolutionary roots of humans and the Archaeopteryx a feathered dinosaur believed to be an ancestor of birds Why is Evolution Important Evolution is the explanation for the origins of Earth and all living species It is also a foundation of biology and aids scientists understand how living organisms work and develop Evolution also shows how various species are connected Scientists study evolution to better understand nature and make useful discoveries like new medicines The evidence for evolution is overwhelming There is no other scientific theory that explains so many aspects of the universe and life on earth and it has been rigorously tested and verified over the course of many years Many people including religious leaders support the theory of evolution as a scientific fact It is important to note that evolutionary biology does not contradict religious beliefs since the theory is based on things events and processes within the physical world In fact many religious people have found ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolution Some Christians for example believe that God created everything through evolution and that humans share an ancestry that is shared with other animals It is crucial for scientists to support the teaching of evolution In some countries around the globe antievolution sentiment is growing In the United States efforts to restrict the teaching of evolution have made some progress in a few states In South Korea a group called the Society for Textbook Revise an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research KAC is pushing for textbooks that cover the evolutionary history of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx It is crucial to keep in mind that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming The evidence for evolution is based on a variety of sources such as fossils genetics and even the behavior of living creatures Other scientists independently verify the evidence The vast majority of scientists support the theory of evolution The reasons behind this support are diverse Scientists study evolution to discover practical solutions such as developing new drugs and other treatments while others use it to improve animal and plants species mostly to benefit humans Some are simply curious whereas still others have a deep religious belief in God and are seeking to understand how the universe works What is Creationism Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken seriously Although not all creationists are Christian however they are a majority Creationists are generally divided into two groups Young Earth Creationists YEC or old earth creationists The most wellknown kind of creationist is called the YEC They believe that God created the universe exactly in the manner described in the Bible YECs believe that the biblical account of the creations six days is true and that the universe and the life on Earth began only recently OECs are less well known However theyre just as enthusiastic about their beliefs as YECs OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old and that evolution is an untruth Both types of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis could explain the origins of life on Earth They argue that evolution is inconceivable because it requires miracles The founders of modern scientific thought shunned miracles because they feared they could lose their credibility Some creationists believe in naturalistic evolution and also special creation and consider their views to be theistic evolution This is also referred to as continuous evolutionism or the evolution of created kinds In this theory God creates the original species and allows them to change over time Eventually the evolutionary changes produce new species that are similar to the original ones Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in one event called the Great Flood They believe that all species were created at the same time and then gradually evolved They also reject the concept of abiogenesis and claim that the creation of selfreplicating organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable In general creationists are against teaching of evolution in schools This is supported by a myriad of professional associations which include the National Science Teachers Association the Association for Science Teacher Education the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America However some researchers and educational institutions are more flexible and allow for the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curricula What is Creationism When people think about the concept of creationism a lot think of the United States South Korea also has an antievolutionist group The publishers of high school textbooks have recently announced that they will remove references to evolution from their books A group called the Society for Textbook Revise STR is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research which is the driving force behind the campaign STR has secured its first victory by removing instances of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor the Archeopteryx from textbooks It is now focusing on the removal of excerpts from Darwins notorious finch research as well as on human evolution too STR claims to have the support of around 4000 families and individuals 에볼루션 무료체험 is to cut out what it believes is the atheist materialism that creates a bleak worldview for students It also aims at countering the influence of American Creationists in the United States A survey of the newest biology teachers revealed that around half do not believe in the concept of evolution The reasons for this are not clear but may include religious beliefs and the lack of fulltime creation scientists in the country The KACR has achieved many things in the past through seminars and lectures It publishes a bimonthly journal called Creation and a book One of these was a textbook on natural science that had a creationist perspective This led to an interest among college communities In 1991 the year 1991 a minister and professor started teaching Creation Science in one university and it is taught until today On August 7 and 8 1993 coinciding with the World Expo opened in Daejeon KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research Six lecturers from abroad including ICRs John Morris and Steven Austin presented to a crowd of more than a thousand 에볼루션 바카라 무료체험 and KACR have also given lectures on creation science in major seminaries KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the near future
